Brantome

A stunning town encircled by a sweep of the river Dronne, its buildings cluster around the 9th century Benedictine Abbey of Brantome which was founded by Charlemagne.

Its 11th century romanesque bell tower is a competitor for the title ‘oldest in France’.

A 16th century bridge links the abbey to its gardens.

Close by is Grotte du Judgement Dernier, a cave with a 15th century carved relief of the Last Judgement.

This Town reflects the tranquility of the region and holds a great market around the river which is flanked by numerous excellent restaurants, bars and cafes.

Perigueux

Perigueux is the Capital of the Perigord Blanc. The modern city sits on the site of ancient Vesunna.

Founded in about 16 BC, this Gallo- Roman settlement fell into decline from around the 4th century onward. During the Middle Ages, a new community sprang up, concentrated around the present Eglise de la Cite and the chateau Barriere.

Perigueux has a history written for more than two thousand years, a story that continues to weave & makes this city so worth a visit. Rooted in the rich hours of its past it has superb architeccture and a marvellous cathedral. With fantastic restaurants, markets and history its a must visit.

Excideuil

The first reference to Excideuil, known as Exidolium is found in document dated 572 AD.

Its a beautiful small town that in 1182 around Pentecost was attacked by Richard 1 of England.

The 13th-18th Century Chateau d’Excideuil is a national heritage site of France.

The town has an excellent market on Thursdays and has numerous cafes, restaurants and shops. Its well worth a visit, especially on market day when the vibe of the town is excellent.
